Yet Another Stargate Meme, by way of Jerie:
How long have you been a fan of Stargate SG-1?
I think it's been a year and a half now. I started writing SG fic in July of 2003. It's all Jerie's fault.
What was the main reason that you became a fan?
I was a big Voyager fan, but when the show ended I needed a new fandom. I wrote some Buffy back in 2001/2002, but the show got too depressing. In 2003 I wrote some TOS, but the only character I really liked was Khan. ENT bored me out of my mind before I could write more than a drabble.
I wanted to be a SG fan for a while before I actually had a chance to see the show. Finally Jerie got me into it and I started writing drabbles and some short pieces. I thought the ship would be the main attraction, but actually Jack is enough - when there's enough Jack.
The ONE Stargate SG-1 episode you think is the best they've done, that you can watch forever?
That's easy - "2010." I can watch bitter!Jack forever.
What is the ONE Stargate SG-1 episode you think could be timeless--as in always be played on the TV years from now?
I'd go with any of the classic sci-fi episodes: "There but for the Grace of God," "1969," "Window of Opportunity," "2010," "The Fifth Man," "Shadow Play," "Changeling," "Revisions," etc. Since the question says ONE and I'm a season 4 fan, I'll go with "Window of Opportunity."
When was Stargate SG-1 at its best?
Back when Jack was on the show.
Who is the ONE character on Stargate SG-1 who you can't get enough of?
Jack. I'm in it for the snark. And bitter!Jack is the Guinness of Jacks.
Your favorite B-storyline (underlying thread) of Stargate SG-1?
This one is hard. I liked some arcs that are now over - the android copies from "Tin Man" and "Double Jeopardy," the Aschen in "2010" and "2001," the Tollans, and the quantum mirror episodes. If you want to count Jonas as a storyline, I enjoyed him. Sam's post-Jolinar Goa'uld powers intrigued me at the time, though not much has happened with them lately. But in the end, it's all about the Jack: I'll go with Jack's (alleged) evolutionary superiority, which leads to sticking his head in Ancient artifacts, getting cloned, and otherwise having a bitter old time.
What's your favorite line from a Stargate SG-1 episode?
"This is the thanks I get for saving the world again?" --Jack in
602 "Redemption" Part 2, when Hammond is threatening to assign him a Russian team member, but it applies to so much bitter!Jack and to the whole NID arc.
What's Stargate SG-1's best season out of all their seasons?
I like them in proportion to their Jack content, but the best overall was season 4, all shippiness aside. There were so many good episodes that season - besides "2010" and "Window of Opportunity," I also loved "Beneath the Surface," "The Light," and "Absolute Power." "Point of No Return" was creative and funny, "Tangent" was a great cold-equations ep, "Entity" was a good alien-takeover ep, "Double Jeoapardy" was a cool use of previous canon, and even "The Curse" was high-quality for Goa'uld-arc cheese.
How many Stargate SG-1 conventions have you been to?
None.
Do you think you are a fan of the show for its content or for the actors?
I'm a fan for the Jack content. I don't know if that counts as the actor or not. I am not obsessed with Richard Dean Anderson.
What is your favorite show of all time that's NOT Stargate SG-1?
I wasn't all that big a fan of Voyager as a show; it was just a premise that was highly amenable to fanficcing. Buffy had a couple of seasons I loved, but the downside (Angel and angst) was always getting me down. Classic Star Trek, however, had it all: cheese, humor, and sci-fi, the essential ingredients of a good show. I'll go with TOS.
Favorite pairing of characters on Stargate SG-1?
Sam/Jack, of course. I liked Sam/Narim, too. Daniel/Sha're was fine, but it was more about the Daniel angst than the relationship. The same goes for Jack/Sara.
